It has been no secret that the Beetaloo
Basin Fracking has given the Northern territory an economic boost. Not only has the Beetaloo Basin Fracking exploration project created more job
opportunities but also a more sustainable way to obtain resources as well.
With the
exploration comes more employment opportunities, giving locals in the area more
chances to expand their career options.
Russell Jeffrey,
regional relationship specialist at Origin Energy, spoke with traditional
owners of the Beetaloo Basin about how the fracking project could benefit the
local community. According to Pompey Raymond, Native Title Holder and a
traditional owner of the Beetaloo Basin, who said the project will create more
opportunities for the younger generation.
“It’s right for
me, you know… It’s right for me,” stated Pompey Raymond when asked about his
thoughts on the project’s positive economic impacts and the idea of the
exploration overall.
Russell also
was quoted as speaking with another traditional owner of the Beetaloo Basin, Gordon Jackson.
Gordon Jackson is also the owner of Triple P Contracting and a Native
Titleholder. When asked about his thoughts on how the Beetaloo exploration will
create jobs and push the growth of the economy, he answered similarly to Pompey
Raymond:
“Opportunities
and workwise, I think it’s good that the gas industry looks at people like us
in the middle of the sticks.”
Both agree that
the continuation of the Beetaloo
Basin fracking project will benefit the community and the economy for
the long-term.
